Tucked inside Little Village in Historic St. Andrews, FINNS Island Style Grub is the kind of place that feels unmistakably Panama City: casual, colorful, outdoorsy and centered around fresh Gulf Coast flavor.
FINNS has built its reputation around a simple philosophy, keep it small, fresh and simple. The restaurant says it uses no fryers and no microwaves, relying instead on a grill and oven while sticking to its longtime motto, “Keeping It Fresh.”
For Panhandle Fork foodies looking for a relaxed meal with plenty of local character, the St. Andrews location offers more than just something to eat. You can grab tacos or a burrito, settle into the open-air surroundings at Little Village, browse locally made and fair-trade merchandise, listen to live music and enjoy the waterfront atmosphere all in one stop.
From a Panama City Beach Taco Stand to St. Andrews
FINNS was founded by Justin and Karen Buxton, who opened their first location in 2009. A few years later, in 2012, they expanded into Little Village in St. Andrews.
Today, FINNS lists two Island Style Grub locations, along with its Barista Bar and Squared Grouper concept. The St. Andrews restaurant is located at 2808 W. 12th Street, Panama City, inside Little Village. Beach location is at 7210 Thomas Drive Panama City Beach, FL 850-249-3466. New Squared Grouper Lagoon location is at 5201 N Lagoon Dr PCB, FL 32408.
The partnership is a natural fit. Little Village describes itself as a waterfront shopping and entertainment destination where visitors can shop, snack, listen and relax, with merchandise from local artists as well as fair-trade companies from around the world.
The Food: Tacos, Burritos, Ceviche & More
Seafood is one of the stars here, and FINNS puts an island-style spin on casual favorites.
Depending on what you're craving, proteins available across the menu include mahi-mahi, shrimp, ahi tuna, jerk chicken, carnitas, steak and mushrooms, giving both seafood lovers and non-seafood diners plenty of choices.
The Epic Quesadilla starts with a crispy grilled 10-inch flour tortilla stuffed with Monterey Jack and cheddar, then lets diners choose their protein and extras such as pico, grilled onions, jalapeños, pineapple, black beans and avocado or guacamole.
Another item worth considering is the shrimp ceviche, prepared in-house with Gulf shrimp. There's also smoked tuna dip with onions, cilantro and jalapeños, plus fresh-made guacamole and salsa for sharing.
And, of course, FINNS is especially well known around town for its fish tacos.
Don't Skip Breakfast
FINNS isn't only a lunch-and-dinner destination.
Its breakfast menu, listed as served from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., includes a Breakfast Burrito loaded with eggs, cheese, rice, black beans and pico; the Dawn Patrol Bowl; Breakfast Tacos with eggs, black beans and sweet potatoes; and an Island Hash with hash browns, cheese, peppers, pico, jalapeños and egg.
One of the more playful choices is the Pancake Tacos, two pancakes topped with eggs and served with maple syrup. Banana pancakes are also available.
Come for the Food, Stay for Little Village
The setting may be almost as important as the tacos.
Little Village brings together waterfront views, colorful outdoor spaces, local art, interesting shops and entertainment. Its official site currently lists hours of Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., with Monday closed, although FINNS' individual restaurant hours can vary and are best checked before visiting.
Live entertainment has long been part of the Little Village experience as well. That combination makes FINNS a particularly good choice when you aren't looking for a traditional sit-down restaurant experience. Grab some food, find a spot outside, wander through the shops, enjoy a cold drink and make an afternoon or evening out of it.
The Panhandle Fork Take
FINNS Island Style Grub isn't trying to be fancy, and that's exactly the appeal.
It's fresh seafood, tacos, burritos and island-inspired food served in one of Historic St. Andrews' most distinctive settings. The casual outdoor atmosphere at Little Village gives the St. Andrews location a personality all its own.
